To keep your Honda running smoothly and without problems, it's important to change the oil. But we won't talk about oil changes today.
After each oil change, you'll have to reset the oil life indicator so that your vehicle computer can accurately track when the next service is needed. Your Honda is a partner on the road. Taking care of its maintenance will ensure its reliability.
Before we start, we just want to mention that if you have an older or European/Asian Honda, things might be a little different, but this guide will still help you a lot. Also, remember that different models can also require different approaches.
Step 1: Prepare Your Honda
Ensure your Honda is parked safely and the engine is turned off. Make sure you have the key or key fob with you.
Step 2: Turn the Ignition to the "On" Position
Insert your key or push the "Start" button without pressing the brake pedal. This should turn the vehicle's electrical systems on, but the engine remains off.
Step 3: Access the Oil Life Display
On most Honda models, locate the "INFO" or "DISPLAY" button on the steering wheel. Press this button to access the vehicle information displayed on your instrument cluster.
Step 4: Navigate to the Oil Life Indicator
Using the "INFO" or "DISPLAY" button, scroll through the menu until you find the "Oil Life" or "Engine Oil Life" indicator. It may also be labeled as "Maintenance."
Step 5: Reset the Oil Life
Once you've selected the "Oil Life" indicator, press and hold the "RESET" button. This button is typically located on the instrument cluster or steering wheel. Hold it down for about 10 seconds or until the oil life indicator blinks or reset to 100%.
Step 6: Confirm Reset
Release the "RESET" button once the oil life indicator resets. This confirms that you've successfully reset the oil life on your Honda.
Step 7: Turn Off the Ignition
Turn the ignition off, or if you have a push-button start, press it again to turn off the electrical systems.
Step 8: Start the Engine
Start your Honda's engine. The oil life indicator should no longer display any warnings or reminders, indicating that the reset was successful.
