When your Acura computer displays “A” service code, is it really just oil change? Well… yes and no. Yes, “A” service does mean oil change, but with oil change also comes oil filter change. And then there are additional modifications – digits that follow the code. They tell us what additional maintenance items or inspections are to be performed. Code A1 means oil change, oil filter change, tire pressure check and tire rotation. Code A2 means not just oil change and oil filter change, but also replacing dust and pollen filter, and checking driving belt. Code A3 ads transfer fluid and transmission fluid (where applicable) replacement to the oil and oil filter change. Code A4 is the big one – in addition to oil and filter change, it also indicates spark plugs replacement, as well as valve clearance inspection, water pump inspection and timing belt replacement (when replacing timing belt, we also recommend replacing the water pump). Fuel pump is vital to the operation of your vehicle. Without it your vehicle would go nowhere (unless you drive an electric car). Signs of a malfunctioning fuel pump are hard to miss – loss of power, problems accelerating. If it fails altogether, the car simply will not run and fuel pump replacement will become a necessity. Fortunately, taking good care of the fuel pump is pretty simple. All you have to do is to keep the fuel tank at least 1/3 full at all times. That’s it? Yes. ACDelco recommends that you buy gasoline any time the tank shows 1/3rd full or less. Personal safety experts recommend keeping the tank 1/2 full at all times. Why? For personal safety, you want a vehicle that can go a long distance without having to stop for gasoline – hurricanes, floods and earthquakes cause havoc with gasoline supplies, so being able to get out of the impact zone without stopping for gas is crucial. But what does that have to do with the health of the fuel pump? Well, most ... read more

As we entered the fall season, evening chill reminds us that rains will soon be upon us. Last winter was unusually wet, but even a regular winter means that your vehicle needs to be ready for rains and storms. At Toole’s Garage Stockton we recommend having you vehicle checked out well before the winter rains start. Here are a few components that should be looked at: Windshield Wipers We don’t think of them in the summer, while the UV rays damage the wipers. Only when the first storm hits, we face the moment of truth – hopefully they hold up, but it’s best to check them before the rain. Lights As the Fall and Winter days get shorter, it’s important that all lights be in good working order. Check you external light, signal lights, brake light and high beams to make sure that all operate correctly. Brake Inspection Brakes are one of the most important safety systems on your vehicle. Audi timing belt replacement is a normal part of maintenance. But what if your Audi has a timing chain, not a timing belt? Timing chains are supposed to last for the lifetime of the vehicle, right? The short answer is “yes and no”. In principle, a timing chain should last for as long as the car is drivable. But in real life, we run into problems that shorten the useful lifespan of a timing chain. As a result, the need for timing chain replacement for your Audi is a real possibility. Timing chains rarely break, but they do stretch. A stretched timing chain (or incorrectly functioning timing chain tensioner) can result in a failure to synchronize opening and closing of the valves with the movement of the pistons. If they get out of synch, it could cause catastrophic engine damage. Signs of a loose timing chain: The engine is rattling while idling or during startup: You know what your car should sound like when you start it. If you hear a rattle on sta ... read more

Your Subaru was not just designed to shield you from the summer sun but also to keep you cool when the weather is hot. All you have to do is to get in the car, turn on the AC and wait for cool air to be distributed in the cabin. Unfortunately, this may not always be the case as your AC may stop working. Quite often you can resolve the problem by getting a Subaru AC refill service to get the a/c system blowing cool air again. How your Subaru’s AC system works Like most vehicles, your Subaru comes with an air conditioning system that uses a refrigerant to provide cool air. The refrigerant is a gas, it is converted to liquid under pressure, and as it flows through the high and low pressure parts of the a/c system, it changes between gas and liquid state, and these changes create cooling effect. By design, the refrigerant in your vehicle should never run out. If the refrigerant ever runs low, it’s likely because there’s a leak. At Toole’s ... read more

Many Subaru owners do everything they know when it comes to maintaining their vehicle except to change the spark plugs. Spark plugs are easy to overlook. Most of the time, they simply ignite the air-fuel mixture in the combustion engine that makes your vehicle run, and we don't give them a second thought. Because of the role they perform, they must be in good condition all the time, otherwise your vehicle’s engine might not function properly. Signs your Subaru spark plugs need replacement Here are the top signs that indicate spark plugs may have reached the end of their life: Check engine light comes on If your spark plugs are failing, you Subaru’s onboard computer will turn on the check engine light. You may also notice engine misfires. Starting troubles A telltale sign that your spark plugs are bad is when you experience troubles starting your Subaru. Since this component is responsible for providing the ... read more

Even though Audi, along with many other manufacturers, has started using timing chains, there are still plenty of Audi vehicles that use the timing belt. It synchronizes engine’s camshaft and crankshaft, regulating the opening and closing of the valves and pistons. At Toole’s Garage Stockton we offer extensive Audi maintenance services and repairs, and timing belt replacement is among the most important. Due to old age and long usage, the timing belt may become worn out and will need to be replaced. One should never ignore a worn-out timing belt as it could break, results in potential engine damage. Given the severity of problems that a broken timing belt can generate, we highly recommend being proactive when it comes to timing belt replacement. The rule of thumb is that a timing belt should be replaced every 100,000 miles or so. But you should check Owner’s Manual for your particular model to find out at what intervals the timing belt should be replaced. As an alter ... read more
